YOU ARE NOT IMAGINING HIGHER FOOD COSTS
The above chart based on Stats Can data indicates the average household food budget has increased from $8500 to over $12,000 in recent years.
The data is only available until 2023 from Stats Can and an addtional 10% could be safely added to the most recent total.
Note: this is the average household food cost and does not take into account the different household sizes. For example there are single persons, couples, couples with children and single parent and child households.
Regardless of household composition everyone has experienced a bigger bite of their houshold budget is now going to food.
As a current comparions Dalhousie University currently pegs the food cost for a four person household as over $16,000.00.
