What does the last 5 years of BC fiscal performance say?
If you look at B.C.’s own Budget 2026 tables, the story is pretty blunt:
1) From surplus to deep structural deficits

2021/22: surplus +$1.262B

2022/23: surplus +$0.956B

2023/24: deficit –$5.035B

2024/25: deficit –$7.347B
-
2025/26 (forecast): deficit –$9.614B
-
2026/27 (plan): deficit –$13.309B
Whatever the intent, the effect is: the province is budgeting as if chronic deficits are a normal operating condition.
