The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) Festival of Architecture taking place right here in Nanaimo from June 8 - 11 included a design competition for Vancouver Island Schools.

The summer of 2016 saw several innovations designed to make Coimmercial Street more attractive to foot traffic, and encourage Nanaimoites to support downtown. It seemed to have the desired effect as downtown was far more vibrant than it has been in recent years.

NIGHT MARKET BROUGHT THE CROWDS DOWNTOWN.

What is significant of this Bulletin photo is the fact it was years before the $6 million makeover that was supposed to make for a better market. Just let these pictures do the talking about how busy downtown has been in times past long before the need of CSOs and such and million dollar makeovers. You might question what has changed at city hall since 2016 until the current date.
