City Council Tells Citzens To "Suck it up"

If a Citizen Speaks Up

Mayor Tells Them to "Shut Up

At the July 16 Finance Committee meeting, chaired by Mayor Krog, seven residents shared their harrowing experiences of living under the Council’s approach to public disorder. Each story painted a grim picture of how decisions made by this Council were transforming their daily lives.

The residents spoke out about the treatment centre on Victoria Rd. and its devastating impact on their sense of security and quality of life.

Some examples:

- An 80-year-old woman had to hide in her rose bushes to avoid a bat-wielding man coming down her street.
- Children can no longer safely play in their own yards.
- Knob Hill Park, once a peaceful community space, is now overrun and no longer accessible to those living near it.
- Residents routinely face the task of cleaning up garbage, human feces, needles, and other waste—just part of their everyday routine.
- It’s no longer safe to walk in front of their homes, and elderly condo residents can’t even take a simple stroll without fear.

Mayor Krog and the Council listened attentively as these residents shared their struggles. Their response? Essentially, “We hear you, we sympathize with you, but you’ll have to accept it. The needs of the addicted and mentally ill take precedence over your safety and well-being.”

This was the Council’s answer to the truly disturbing behavior being endured by Victoria Rd. residents.

In the same meeting, a citizen in the gallery calmly expressed an opinion. The mayor immediately deemed this a disruption in his "house." To everyone’s surprise, two RCMP officers, who happened to be present, swiftly intervened and arrested the citizen, citing the disturbance as the reason.

Can you see the irony? The hypocrisy? The very people the mayor and council are supposed to represent, the taxpayers, are ignored, while the voices of the citizens are stifled. The addicted and mentally ill are prioritized, and any dissent is swiftly silenced.
