WHY THE CAMERA BAN

SHOULD MATTER TO YOU

Council Chambers are YOUR Chambers, Those chambers are where YOUR city council decides how they are going to spend YOUR money. (Truth be told they have already decided in the backroom)

This idea that the only recording to be allowed is what THEY record and what THEY keep and maintain should raise eyebrows on every Nanaimo citizen.

This ban has gone so far as to exclude even the press from recording their own version of what happened at city council last night. Even if we had a local newspaper anymore, their reporter wouldn't be allowed to record the meeting using ANY kind of electronic device.

Why aren't the local 'press' up in arms about this infringement on a very basic right of ALL citizens?

There is absolutely NO acceptable reason for banning the quiet filming or recording of a City Council meeting. Anyone who can't adhere to the very basic rules of proper decorum should be dealt with on a case by case basis, but a blanket ban should be an offense to every Freedom-loving Canadian.

City Hall Is Not Broken

It is just unattended

Time to go from the couch to the council chamber

Remind City Council this is not THEIR city.
