They’ve Banned You from Recording City Meetings

A new bylaw — Bylaw 7381 — now allows the City of Nanaimo to:

  • Ban your phone or camera from council chambers.
  • Kick you out if they don’t like what you're doing. 
  • Ban you from City Hall for up to 18 months, even for something as small as filming a meeting.

You read that right: your right to record your government in action is now up for debate.

That’s not democracy. That’s damage control.
